An Open Letter To “Lincoln.”
We are writing to you directly regarding your repeated decision to “coal roll” your Ford King Ranch F-350 truck at our group during our peaceful and non-violent protest activities.
We know who you are, Lincoln. We’ll spare exposing your last name here to save you some embarrassment, but that may not be the case in the future unless you stop what you’re doing. We know where you live, where you work, your telephone number, your email address, and even your social media accounts. We also know who your family is — your mother and your father, both who are respected community members and business people, and your siblings as well. We even know of your friendship with a certain County Commissioner. We have no desire to involve them. But we want to ask you a few questions:
How would your parents and other family members feel knowing their son is deliberately spewing diesel exhaust and black smoke into the faces of peaceful protesters who are exercising their First Amendment right to free speech, expression, and to redress grievances with their government – all protected rights by the Constitution?
Are you or they aware that the great majority of the group of people you are harassing and inflicting toxic smoke onto are made up of elderly community members, many of whom have serious health conditions including respiratory issues?
Are you aware that when you coal rolled us on July 5, 2025 that one of the people you threw your toxic smoke into was a 99-year-old veteran of the Second World War who could only stand because he was leaning up against a utility pole – but he stood anyway because he thought it was important to speak out? You threw smoke in his face, Lincoln. Is that how you “support the troops?”
Are you aware that what you are doing is in violation of ORS 815.200 and that you could be fined between $60 and $250 for each incident and if it causes a crash you would be liable for that as well?
Are you aware that what you are doing opens you up to civil litigation for any damages you cause to a person’s physical well-being or health?
Do you know that repeat offenders of "coal rolling" can face severe penalties, including the potential for license suspension or revocation. That would make it difficult to go to work, wouldn’t it?
The people you are doing this to may be someone your parents or other family members likely know. People who are simply exercising their First Amendment right to peaceful assembly as you throw toxic fumes and smoke at them. And for what? Because you disagree with their political views? Do you think that gives you the right to inflict physical harm onto others? Have you no moral compass?
You are young, and we understand that. Your cerebral cortex is still developing. You have very little life experience. But that’s absolutely no excuse because you’re also an adult. We believe you are capable of better judgment than what you have shown. But what you are doing is not a prank — you are directing toxic exhaust at vulnerable people in your own community. That is not the behavior of someone raised by good people, in a good family, and we suspect your parents would be deeply ashamed if they knew.
We have already filed two formal complaints with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and turned over both photographic and video evidence. They are aware of your actions and those complaints are now on record. We have also contacted the Roseburg Police Department as well. If this continues, we will continue to file complaints until you are held accountable for your actions. That includes potential civil litigation at our discretion.
We are asking you — directly and seriously — to stop. Not because of the legal consequences, though those are real. But because it is simply wrong. These are your neighbors. This is your community. You’re an adult. Act like it.
In the meantime, we will leave this bit of evidence that we do have right here. If you don’t have any sense of shame, maybe the people around you will and they will have enough sense to lead you to the right path.
This is your vehicle at the intersection of Garden Valley Blvd and the BLM entrance on July 5th at 12:52 PM, right before you pulled away and coal rolled 20 people.
This is your truck towards the end of a coal rolling incident on February 28th, 2026. The plate matches your truck from the July 5th incident as well.
This is video of your truck coal rolling us on July 5, 2025. We captured your plate and the coal rolling incident.
